On Tuesday, October 24th, the Paterson Firefighters Foundation, in coordination with the Paterson Firefighters Association and Paterson Fire Department, hosted a Pasta Dinner & Super Tricky Tray as a fundraiser for Firefighter Jonathan Roman.
Driving work at the Paterson Fire Department is a drive Jon Roman took hundreds of times in his fourteen-year career; however, on a morning in September of 2022, an oncoming car crossed the double yellow lines, crossing into his lane of travel, the crash resulting in numerous critical injuries. The near-fatal accident left him on a respirator and, for a period of time, in a medically induced coma; he has had dozens of surgeries and procedures addressing his injuries, including internal bleeding, two collapsed lungs, shattered broken hips, and broken back and legs.
He was in the hospital for ten months; during that time, his wife Paola was parenting their daughter alone and pregnant with their second daughter, who she gave birth to while Jon was still in the hospital. The resulting financial hardships led the Roman family to sell their home and move back in with Paola's parents. They are struggling through the many additional fees insurance does not account for or cover.
Knowing our brother is facing such hardships, the Paterson Firefighters Foundation organized and hosted this Fundraiser to help give additional assistance to Roman, a two-time veteran of foreign war.
We are very grateful to all who donated and the many who attended. We also thank ABC NY News for covering the story of the Roman Family. We encourage all who could not attend but would like to support our brother to donate to their GoFundMe.
