On Friday, July 7th, 2023, the Mauro family, friends, and the Paterson Fire Department shared a farewell ride with the Retired Chief of the Department, John A. Mauro Sr.
Starting at Festa Memorial Funeral Home, to Our Lady of Pompeii R.C. Church for Funeral Mass, and a final ride from Our Lady of Pompeii, stopping at Paterson Fire Headquarters, where Paterson Dispatch sent a special final message over the air on Fire Dispatch channel, honoring the Chief of the Department (callsign Car 5-0 at the time), and his turnout gear sat in memorial.
Then a final ride past Hillcrest Firehouse, onto Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, where Chief will rest in a family Mausoleum.
Our hearts go out to the Mauro family; we thank the Passaic County Emerald Society, Totowa Police, Paterson Police, Passaic County Sherriff, Paterson Fire Honor Guard, Battalion Chief Michael Trommelen, and our brothers from Riverside Firehouse Tour 2 for their part in the day—a special thank you to all PFD members who assisted in Casket Watch duty throughout the viewing process.
Our post announcing the passing of the Chief can be found here.
